The Berkshire Downs Ride, including the EGB Southern Championship, is a two day ride and the venue is a large equestrian centre. There is unlimited corralling and camping and 30 stables available on site, more stabling is available locally. We aim to foster a good atmosphere at the venue with lots of people staying for the weekend and offer classes for every combination of horse and rider, everyone is welcome.
The ride route is primarily over the Berkshire Downs and includes open undulating Downland, without steep climbs. Mainly on grassy tracks with some being harder. Very short sections of quiet roadwork and only a couple of gates. The route is generally considered to be easy and fast (for those in the ER classes). A full range of classes are available from a 30km NCR up to 80km ERs and this year the EGB Southern Championship class will be a two day 130km CR (65 + 65km).
As in previous years an EGB Inter-Group competition will be run and also new for this year will be an endurance Riding Club Qualifier (approx 32km) for the championships that will be held later in the year. For details on the Riding Club Qualifier please contact Pam Pemberton 07917 054 625
The new venue is no longer on the top of the hill and should be more sheltered for vetting and camping, it is also a designated training facility for the 2012 Olympics and there should be a range of very useful facilities appearing over the next two years.
