UPDATE FEB ‘07

Re. Rides and 'Helps' Qualification for SE Group Trophies Scheme

Following formation of a new Group called Mid South the South East Group committee have received several enquiries asking which rides and ‘helps’ will qualify for the SE Group trophies and how the formation of a the Mid South group will affect rides that now sit within the new group area.

We confirm that for this year, all the ‘old’ South East rides (i.e. those that now sit within the new group area) will still count for the South East Group trophies.  In effect, it does not matter in which Group area they are actually located.  So, for helping and trophies the Mid South rides in what was previously part of the South East group will be treated as "joint rides", including Southdowns and Hornshill which are actually in the revised SE area.  In summary the SE trophy rules as printed and recently sent out to SE Group members are correct including the list of rides eligible for trophies and for helping.

We hope this helps to clear up any confusion and concerns SE Group members have regarding this subject.  However, do feel free to contact any member of the SEG Committee if you require further clarification.

General rules applicable to qualify entry into the South East Group Awards Scheme.

Please read AND note.

1.           In order for points/kilometres to count, the rider must be a member of the SE Group of EGB, subscribe to the Group’s newsletter and help at 2 or more rides/events in the Group (see help criteria set out in box below).

2.           All horses must be currently registered with EGB and have a logbook (with the exception of The Pleasure Ride Trophy and The James Cassar Headway Trophy ).

3.           All horses/riders start as of 1 January each year with nil points/kilometres.

4.           A Group trophy record card will be issued to Newsletter subscribers at the start of each season (send SAE to the Membership Secretary with your subscription fee).

5.           It is the responsibility of the rider to complete the Group trophy record card and to obtain the signature of the ride TS, Organiser or Secretary at each EGB ride (all EGB rides throughout the country).  Rides without the appropriate signature will not be counted, nor will any rides completed but not entered on the trophy record card.

6.           Trophy record cards have spaces for rides plus helpers lines.  It is COMPULSORY for all riders to help at a minimum of 2 South East Group EGB rides/events each year and this will be deemed a qualification of entry into the Group scheme.  Any rider riding more than one horse has to help at a minimum of 2 SEG EGB rides/events each year (and noted on subsequent horses cards that their help is signed on 'x' horse's card).  The trophy card must be signed by the ride TS, Organiser or Secretary as proof of helping at a ride.  If more than one rider per horse, then each rider must help with at least 2 SEG EGB rides/events in order for the points/kilometres to count.  eg. if two riders ride one horse, then in order for both riders points to count towards awards and trophies for the SE Group, then the horse’s card must be signed to show that each rider has helped at a minimum of 2 rides/events in the SE Group.

HELP CRITERIA – PLEASE READ AND TAKE NOTE

One help must be at an EGB SEG national ride, on the ride day only (ie. the rider is giving up one riding day and the eligibility to earn mileage/points). EGB SEG National rides in 2007 are: Tilford, Primrose, Southdowns Festival, Berkshire Downs, Beachy Head, Plumpton, Hornshill, Ashdown Forest, Windsor Park, Firle Park, Bramshill Forest, & Devils Dyke.

The second help can also be at an EGB SEG national ride on the ride day (as above) or can include helping with the set up and taking down of a ride (eg. marking/demarking ride route for whole day pre or post ride) or can also include helping at SEG training rides, (SE training rides in 2007 are, Hale Court, Frensham Vale, Easter Treat, Friston Forest, Black Knight) and at other events/jobs including whole days at SEG seminars and other SEG training events, running the SEG website, running the SEG Health & Safety Scheme, assisting with trade/promotional events for the SEG.

A list of events will be published by the committee during the year as they are decided upon.  It is at the discretion of the committee as to which events are to be included.  The committee also reserve the right to include additional events during the course of the year.

Ride Organisers of EGB national rides and SEG Training rides will be able to have their cards signed for both 1st and 2nd help days.  Entries Secretaries of EGB national rides and SEG training rides will be able to have their cards signed for helping at an EGB SEG national ride.

It doesn’t matter in which order the helps are done, just as long as the rider has the SEG trophy card signed to indicate that they have helped with at least 1 EGB SEG national ride and 1 other SEG ride/event during the 2007 season.

7.           The best 10 rides to count towards the trophies (with the exception of the kilometre trophy, The Sailing Tartan trophy and The James Cassar Headway Trophy); continuation cards may be obtained by sending an SAE to the Membership Secretary (NB. We will take your best 10 rides to count).

8.           All trophy record cards must be returned to the Trophy Secretary by 26th October, 2007 plus a completed 2007 trophy registration form (issued with summer newsletter or obtainable from trophy or membership secretary by sending sae).  When completing your trophy record cards, please calculate your points (as per rule book page 148 & 149).  Note no points are awarded for NCR classes.

9.           All vetted rides under EGB/FEI rules will count (FEI rides earn kilometres only – no points are awarded).  Non Competitive Rides (NCR) will only count towards The Pleasure Ride Trophy, Kilometre Achievement Award and The James Cassar Headway Trophy.

10.      It is the member’s responsibility to ensure the Trophy Secretary has a copy of the relevant breed certificate on file.

11.      In the event of a tie-situation, for trophies judged on a points basis, the horse with the highest number of kilometres will win.  For the Highest Kilometre trophy, the horse with the highest number of points will win.

12.      A photocopy of your mastercard must be sent in with your trophy record card and trophy registration form at the end of the season.

13.      HCD and Headway team trophy registration forms must be received by the Trophy Secretary by 31st March 2007 at the latest.

About Headway and the trophy donated by Anthony French

In 1999, the national organisation adopted the name it is known by today- Headway- the Brain Injury Association. It has grown to support over 100 groups and branches throughout the UK and is the national focus for highlighting the issues that people with brain injury face, lobbying Parliament and initiating campaigns.

James Cassar has a fund set up in his name to raise monies to help establish a new day centre for Headway Tunbridge Wells and District. James died tragically at the age of 17 in a road accident. The trophy is donated by Anthony French, James’s grandfather who himself only just survived a road crash in 1981.
